T-SQL the Top Language of 2013(!)

T-SQL the Top Language of 2013(!)
Pretty incredible if you think about it. That means more than VB, more than C# – more than … well, everything else out there, people turned to TSQL as a key to building out applications. To be fair, the headline is a bit misleading – T-SQL really is the top "mover and shaker" – the most improved if you will. Those other languages (in fact there are 9 others) are above T-SQL but none had the activity T-SQL did on the index.

Now, nothing against T-SQL at all, but it shows just how fragmented the development process and world really is. There just aren’t any really clear winners here with all sorts of languages, that you’d expect to be in the top running, appearing lower in the list than expected.

I think T-SQL gets to benefit from the fact that it doesn’t matter what language your application is going to be developed under, you’ll still be using T-SQL to talk to the database. It’s hard to beat that edge in the comparison.

Take a look at the report from eWeek here and the overall index is here.

Where does/do your language of choice (or languageS of choice) fall in the list? I suppose too that the reality may as much be related to the fact that many have settled on their choice of language and are doing more data-oriented work, so the data-oriented elements may shine a bit more… it’s hard to say though.

What about your shop? Do you see things changing around or are you standardized on your toolsets?
