SQL Compliance Review
Do you work in the Healthcare industry? Do you work in the Banking industry? Do you work for a company managing credit card transactions, stock trading, or any other financial services? If so, then you know auditing is a fact a life. You anticipate the yearly ritual of auditors arriving on-site, demanding reports on various aspects of your databases. They want know who has access, and who has elevated rights. They may want to see system settings and the last time these settings were changed, or they may want to know when the last time objects were dropped, altered, or accessed.

SQL Server 2012 On Deck
SQL Server 2012 release is today so you’ll be seeing all sorts of information on the release, the updates and the types of things that you can do with it. We’ll have part 1 of our run-down tomorrow – keep an eye out for it.
What are your plans for SQL 2012? Have you been working with the Betas? (er, sorry, CTPs) – if so, what have you found that you like, don’t like, will use, won’t use? There are changes in many places, and I don’t think it’s any secret that Business Intelligence options and capabilities will be a big focus as people look at the release.
Many features, already talked about by Microsoft, include a focus on performance options for BI, from faster presentation creation options with the announced Power View to Data Quality Services. I think increasingly the systems are about providing support for going after information the way you want to – then turning you loose on the data to get what you need.
It will be fun to see the solutions people build out with the tools – between the work being done here, and with other sources from Hadoop to presentation tools, "data discovery" is going to be a big topic I think.
