PowerPivot Expo – Tomorrow – Free
Tomorrow’s expo will be all about understanding and using the new PowerPivot tool from Microsoft. PowerPivot is a free add-in for Excel 2010 (works with the beta, works along-side prior releases of Excel) that let’s you work with data from SQL Server and gets past issues of working with really large data sets. IT, Ease of Management, Applying Experience
Yesterday I was commenting on the recent article about IT being too easy. I asked about your experiences and thoughts about experience vs. tools – and received some great notes.
Jonathon wrote "I’ve been designing data systems since 1994 and working with SQL Server since 2000; the future for us senior professionals can be in being the expert that only some companies need, and we can mentor the new folks coming into our field. I am close to achieving my goal of being so good that I can architect and build any SQL Server database needed (at superlative enterprise-class quality) in less time than 95% of the SQL Server developers out there. I have as my customers a few wise, insightful, future-oriented organizations that understand the value of the very best db systems; I hope to serve them for many years. This long-term relationship enables strong trust between team members and it gives me deep business understanding that translates to fast db development/change.

I think this is a really cool thing, actually. I think there is real power in the mentoring relationships that can be built, and real leverage for companies that can utilize this type of approach. I hope we do indeed see it happening.
