Licensing Costs with SQL Server – Did You Know?
It’s not easy to work through all of the costs for cloud providers. WIth the way things are priced out based on services, bandwidth usage, storage and the like, it’s a potentially pretty dizzying array of options and costs.
It’s important, however, to make sure you think through the core costs for your systems. Especially in cases where you can pretty quickly identify different components. You know you’ll need particular capacity and performance, for example.
It’s possible, then, to take that information and use it to lay out the systems you’ll require to provide that level of performance. You can use that to look at different providers to see the differences in how they price things, and more importantly, what that can mean to your bottom line.
I was surprised to find out the rather significant costs differences between how you may be licensing SQL Server in the cloud, particularly when comparing Azure-based solutions and those at Amazon. It shows that you really do need to pay very close attention to the bits and pieces, and that they can add up.
