I know I talk a fair bit about all of the different types of solutions and approaches and environments you can be working with when getting your own data platform work going. But I thought I’d ask the simple question –
Do you cloud?
(Sorry for the grammatical murder there) – I’m curious if you feel things have moved on to the point where you feel both safe with your information in the cloud and protected from a pure access control standpoint. In other words, does it bother you having your information somewhere out of your control?
Does the whole thing of government intervention (with a warrant) register with your concerns?
Do you plan what goes where (cloud vs. non-cloud) or is cloud still a “no-go” type solution when it comes right down to it for you and your environment?
I’m wondering because it seems so many things are happening in that world (Azure, Amazon AWS, Google, etc.) and yet I have seen some very strong hesitations to really commit in some cases. By really commit, I mean move the right pieces there, and rely on that move and feel good about it.
All the benefits and such aside, all of the pros and cons, just a super-basic question – are you doing cloud-based critical infrastructure and solutions today? If not, do you plan to or are you evaluating? If so, do you plan to expand that as you move forward?
When you make or made the decision, what are your criteria? What do you like most about it? What keeps you up at night about the decision? Have we moved beyond the horror stories and into utility and trust?
I like to think so, but I sure would like to hear your thoughts.
