Are You Working with New Database Platforms?
There are so many different things happening with new database platforms. From cloud-based alternatives that look and feel like your existing servers to cloud-based systems that are entirely different and new approaches to providing your database services.

In addition, there are new platforms that run on your servers – or a mix of servers and the cloud. The "NoSQL" movement is an example of this, providing a new approach entirely to storage and retrieval of the information you store.

Are you working with these new tools and environments? From the different bits of feedback I’ve been receiving, it’s clear that there is pull to work in many of these tools, but what’s not very clear is whether this is due to some that just really love working in the latest and great technologies, no matter what… or whether there are features or functions driving the desire to work with new approaches. I’ve been talking with a few people that are using these platforms and it seems like there are some early successes (yes, I realize "early" is a relative term here) but that, as with any technology, there are unique challenges that arise. Testing to see if the platform will support what you need is key.

My question then is whether you’re using any of these platforms and what you’re seeing. Performance enhancements? Accessibility? What works well for you?

Drop me a note – let me know.
