The SQL Server Buzz…
At TechEd and on blogs is about your databases, essentially everywhere. From the Microsoft Sync framework to SQL Server scaling to everything from mobile devices to the services in the sky, it’s clear that the idea here is to make the data, and database services, available no matter where you are. While SQL Server 2008 isn’t the key message (though it’s certainly present) at TechEd’s Developer-Focused Show this week, the services and supporting technologies are clearly the focus. LINQ, Sync and many others (including upcoming data types in SQL Server 2008) are in many featured sessions.

In addition, there is talk of new caching features ("Velocity") that lives above traditional SQL Server layers – it will look to relieve some of the IO pressure on applications and data access. Add to this the search updates and rumors and you’ll see that SQL Server 2008 is quickly shaping up to be a very well-rounded and broad release on quite a few fronts. There is much talk, too, about Oslo. Oslo talks to the SOA features Microsoft is pulling together, essentially building a framework of support, from developer tools to building blocks and administrative support.

More to come as we dig through the information.
