SQL Server 2008 Deployment Initial Feedback
Several have already written in with their plans for SQL Server 2008 (share your thoughts here)

Dan: "Our company just completed the upgrade to SQL 2005 for our ERP system. Many legacy applications still require SQL 2000 and will not upgrade without a huge cash outlay. So we continue to run SQL 2000 as well. Until our software vendors have “certified” their applications on SQL 2008, there will be no consideration for the upgrade. If there is a consideration, it will be timed with infrastructure upgrades in about three years. Why fix what’s not broken?"

Edward: "We have been live in Production with SQL Server 2008 for some minor applications using various CTPs and now the Release Candidate. We expect to do a more extensive rollout next year with the RTM version to take advantages of improvements to Full Text search, possibly including a move to Windows 2008. Application changes to take advantage of other SL Server 2008 features are also planned.

Our main driver is to turn business opportunities into business successes, using whatever technology keeps us ahead of our competitors.
"

Thus far responses seem to be mixed, but leaning toward upgrading as the need arises, rather than setting up specific upgrade projects. There are, though, several people looking to upgrade for specific features (spatial data types).
