EMC and Microsoft

I don’t know if you’ve seen it, but Microsoft and EMC are really working closely together in a number of areas. One is the backup and recover area, and another is in the area of SQL Server Always On Technologies. Spatial Data Types – Some Help Understanding Them
Saw this great post that answers a number of questions SSWUG readers have written in about – and have asked about at different points. Specifically, what are the spatial data elements really all about, and how do they work?

Jason writes: "Recently there has been a lot of discussion and focus on various location based services such as map API’s and GeoRSS but I never heard much about how people were actually storing their geographical data. I always assumed that their databases had columns for latitude and longitude using some sort of decimal datatype. Well, it seems that might not be the case because things look to be heading in a very different direction."
