How to Use the SharePoint PeopleEditor Control: Saving Data
The PeopleEditor control is a common control that you’ll find implemented throughout SharePoint. If you’re building any custom web parts or application pages, you may want users to enter people specific information. The PeopleEditor is a good choice, however, there isn’t much out there in terms of documenting its use. Hopefully the information below will help get you started. If you are having issues, or if there is something Ive missed in my post, please feel free to leave me a comment.

Software as a Service – MORE Expensive?
Donald Farmer forwarded a message about an article about a recent report from Gartner indicating that SaaS may be more expensive over the long haul than in-house software purchased.

I have to say, I think the article is correct, but perhaps even more so than they anticipated. I’ve seen a significant interest in using systems that are based on SaaS – but I’ve also seen a common theme in using these systems. In general, people are not moving 100% to SaaS. Instead, they’re moving some systems to the services, keeping some in-house and looking for savings from the services… It just doesn’t work out for them. Not only do you pay, and continue paying, for the services, but also for the ongoing systems in-house. It can be quite the budget surprise.

The net-message here is to create a plan for your SaaS initiatives. You want a plan for both how you’ll use services, and how they’ll integrate into what you’re doing with locally installed software. Carefully consider how your budget will be impacted by the longer-term use of services. This doesn’t mean you won’t use services. In fact, there are really strong cases for using services – cash flow help, utility, many times best of breed software, etc. You just need to make sure you’re making both informed and conscious decisions about how you want to implement the inevitable combination of solutions for your own use.
