Remote DBA, Is it For You?
I have received quite a bit of Email regarding Remote DBA editorials. For those of you having sent information regarding yourself or your company providing DBA Services, I am capturing your information and will be posting it in the next couple of weeks. This is simply a list with no endorsements. I am not going to take time to vet these options, leaving it for you to do yourself. My goal here is to save you time in finding resoruces.
I was surprised at the number of Emails I received with the question about how to get into remote DBA work. So, if you are doing remote DBA work and care to share your experience feel free to send me an Email.
I will tell you that it is important to be connected in some way with other professionals. You will always have areas of strength and weakness, and need others around you to fill in the gaps. One way to start doing this is to find a company that specializes in this kind of service. Demonstrate your skills to them, and then start gathering engagements.
One company I know works more as a consortium. They have an umbrella company performing all billing and bookkeeping functions, as well as providing group health care. However, the individuals are self employed to a degree (not sure how much). They find their own work, and simply contribute a percentage of their income to the consortium to pay for the shared expenses. The nice thing about this kind of arrangement is the ability to have backup from other professionals for experience or increased coverage. That way you can go on vacation, or don’t have to be on call 24/7.
Finding opportunities is the most difficult part. If you are any good, persistent and active, you’ll find them.
Why not send me a note with other tips you’d like to share…
Cheers,
Ben
