Interesting Things Happening with Tools for SQL Server
I’ve been sitting in on a number of demonstrations of different SQL Server tools of late and am amazed to see the features that are creeping into these well-known packages. If you’re using third-party tools, or considering them, think about going back to your vendor(s) and asking for a refresher demonstration. I’ve seen so many new things coming into these tools – and things too that they put in the tool that we didn’t know we’d need. From reporting and console-type solutions to pull your servers together to utilities and new functionality, I’ll tell you what;, it’s probably time to take a look and see how they can save you time, money and hassles.

I’ve seen this trend of late in both analysis tools and utilities; I’ve seen it in stand-alone applications too – but just know that most of these vendors are more than happy to show off the software. They’d love to take some time, show you what it does and help you apply their software to your system. Seriously – it could save you all sorts of grief. In these times where leverage is so important, this can really help out with either software you already have, or software you may be considering.

I’ve been watching demos of software we’ve had for many, many years. I had no idea about some of the features and applications of them. You get comfortable in the features you use and don’t realize that there can be much more to it.

Check it out when you have some time. Have your vendors earn their keep and help you use their products. Heck, tell ’em SSWUG sent you. 🙂
