Database Design – the Biggest Performance Tweak You Have
We’ve done so much work with different people reworking their systems, helping design better relational structures and getting the overall schema and structure of their systems the best they can be. When you’re facing a performance issue, or a scalability issue, or a maintenance issue – well, you get it. It’s often tightly related to your design and structure of your systems. The great news is that we’ve convinced Paul Nielson, one of the leading names in database design, to put together his class for SSWUG readers – and you have the opportunity to be one of only a few people in the class.

There is a TON of information in this class – take a look at the class schedule here on the site – and you’ll be able to work directly with Paul, test ideas, work through changes and figure out in very specific, custom terms what works best for your own installation. This is a hands-on class – and Paul’s pulling out all the stops in making sure you know what you really need to know about design and architecture.

SO many people are looking at architecture as the perfect compliment to traditional DBA duties – this is your chance to be up to speed in only 3 days.

Get more information here at the site, check out the specific class information, or register online – it’s very simple and we can’t wait to see you October 26, 27 and 28. We even have special rates on the class, the hotel and many other surprises. Paul is the author of the SQL Server Bible and a highly rated and sought-after presenter at technical conferences and classes.

Intriguing New SQL Server 2008 R2 Feature
When I was talking with Donald Farmer this past week, he was explaining about a very cool new feature in R2 that I think may really help change how people consume reports from SQL Server.

The feature let’s you get an ATOM feed of the data behind reports – straight from the report. So, if you can imagine building out a report that shows the information you need and use, then realizing you need to go a bit deeper… well, today you’d have to have either built a drill-down type report, or build a new report providing the new level of detail.

Not so with R2. You’ll be able to click the data feed button (my term, not theirs) and get all of the information behind the report, pull it into Excel and work with it as you need to.

Kinda cool, and opens the doors to all sorts of opportunities…

Buck Woody, Donald Farmer on SelecTViews
SelecTViews: Buck Woody and Donald Farmer are on the show today talking about SQL Server, BI and Management tools. Buck and Donald are also having a shootout at TechEd Europe, so they talk a bit about strategy there as well.
