Amazon DynamoDB
Recently I have been looking at the DynamoDB from Amazon. This is a new offering that at the time of the document in the previous link, was still in beta. I am not sure of the current state.
This is a NoSQL engine having much of the elasticity of MS Azure. A pay as you go model allows you to provision as much or little storage as you require on an hourly basis.
They provide Map/Reduce capabilities through a Hadoop engine.
They have failover built into the infrastructure. Performance is increased through the use of Solid State Disk.
With a tiered pricing model, this kind of storage makes the entrance to NoSQL much more affordable. Amazon manages all of the provisioning and updates to the servers. Their software allows you to modify your configuration readily.
They also have a simple NoSQL database with a 10gig limit. The DynamoDB platform is made to scale massively with reliable/consistent performance.
If you’re looking to get your feet wet using NoSQL, Amazon DynamoDB is certainly an option to consider.
Why not drop me a note at btaylor@sswug.org, and share your experience with NoSQL distributions?
Cheers,
Ben
