New Features in ADO.NET (Part II)
ADO.NET has introduced many cool features to improve the scalability and performance of data centric applications. With features like provider independent factory models, support for XQuery handling with xml data type and asynchronous processing techniques, the amount of LOC, code complexity and maintenance has been greatly reduced thus helping the developers to be more productive. In this series of articles, we will explore the new features added to ADO.NET.

OMIGOSH, Round II
I really enjoyed this list from a reader – I think Elizabeth has it absolutely right… especially the last few items.

"What is the database supposed to do?

What does the database actually do?

Was there a time in the past when it did work correctly?

What has changed?

Is it possible to roll back the change?

What happens that triggers the problem?

Is it possible to discontinue use of the feature causing the problem until it is fixed?

By the time the above questions have an answer, it is usually possible to determine what to do.

Next determine how to do it.

Next get started.

Regardless, crisis mode requires that the DBA operate in a calm manner and that requires tuning out some of the pressure.

Once you get it fixed, determine whether you want to stay at this organization.

If yes, begin using procedures to prevent problems in future.

If you can’t get cooperation to use these procedures, the answer should be no.

If no, update your resume with this new impressive experience."
