Today Oracle is set to release 42 patches and updates – if you’re supporting Oracle systems, make sure you get the latest updates and read through the release notes to identify the most critical for your installation.
Excellent Article About the Top 14 Things…
…for SQL Server as best practices. 14? Yes. They’re looking for a 15th – what would you add? The post includes using normalized tables, keeping readability in mind as you code your statements, using indexing for performance the like. Take a look at the post here from Pinal Dave. They have some definite things to be doing and thinking about as you build and support your systems.
That said, what would you add? Were there things you disagree with as a "Top 14" on the list of to-do’s for SQL Server?
I wonder if #5, about storing images in the db (as in don’t) is still as applicable, especially going into SQL Server 2008? Though not specifically peformance, I’d also suggest that one of the items be the use of encryption on sensitive data, along with possibly adding a bit about setting up your access security very carefully and thoughtfully.
