Troubleshooting SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services problems (Part 2)
In this article, Alexander Chigrik explains some problems that you can have when you work with SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services. He also tells how you can resolve these problems.

Tough Times, More Expectations and More Responsibility
It’s no secret that the markets are in a bit of turmoil (a bit?) and that times are tight for companies. Does this mean that DBAs are in risky positions? I think, actually, that it really means that this is a time where you can bring huge benefits to the table, to your company.

If you think about how companies make decisions, it’s based on information. It’s based on trends, ideas, approaches, what works, what doesn’t. This is where you as a DBA can really shine and bring huge benefits to the team. You can look through your systems and, even without necessarily digging in the data, look for new ways that solid conclusions and "AHA!" moments can be gleaned from the information in your databases. This is a time of helping your company (or companies if you’re a consultant) really put that information to use.

Try to take a step back, look for new, leveraged ways to use information in your systems. How can you help decisions be made more clearly, with more solid footing based in the data facts in your systems?

I’m not trying to necessarily be a cheerleader here, but it’s time to step up and do all you can, and then some, to help your teams excel and do more.

Some examples of these include things like sales reports, what sells, to who, why? If you can relay this information in insightful ways (this, or other, information), your company wins. You win. You really do have a responsibility to step up in any way you can to help shine light on these types of data uses.

Take a few minutes and think about any new ways you can contribute – new reports, new queries, new information. It can be a time of huge leverage and important insight.
