Working with SQL Server on a Mobile Device
Well, the feedback has been all over the board on this one. I think that some people may actually consider remote, small device access to be the plague, while others live and breath by it without a second thought. There are some clear trends though on the people that ARE using remote access to SQL Server – here’s what Scott had to say on what he is interested in doing, vs. uninterested in doing with his device:

Do:
Manage Jobs (Start, Stop, Check Status)
Run AD-HOC SELECT SQL Queries
Kick Users
Backup Databases / Manage Logs

Not Do:
Restart Services and/or Servers
Provision Users
Run AD-HOC NON-SELECT SQL Queries
Restore Backups

Most people seem to be saying that they do draw the line at restarting servers, but would in a pinch. Job management seems to be a huge benefit, I’m assuming this comes from the fact that a lot of jobs run after hours and being able to manage them remotely saves sleep time.

Please keep sending in your feedback – I’ll be including more tomorrow. Is there something you WISH you could do remotely? What would that be?
