Business Intelligence, Business Insight, Explaining the Difference in IT Terms…
Ted Malone was asking about the ways that different people would explain and define the terms Business Intelligence and Business Insight. I’ve also seen other articles about different job titles that cross over lines in the analyst space.
I chuckle a bit at the job titles that are being touted, but I do understand what’s happening. It’s hard to explain what you’re looking for when it really amounts to someone that can talk management AND design AND DBA, all in one person. This seemes to be the big push at this point, the ability to converse about data at the levels needed to first understand and convey requirements, and second to be able to know what can be done and how to get it defined.
I agree entirely that this is going to be a huge area of focus, it’s simply critical in any organization.
Back to Ted’s question though – how would you define the terms "Business Intelligence" and "Business Insight?" If you were explaining these approaches/concepts to someone non-technical, how would you explain it?
