Brought straight to your desktop, this 12-session class includes weekly business hours with Eric, LOTS of information about SSIS and how you can put it to use in your own shop. There is SO MUCH information packed into this course, it’s unbelievable. Take a look at the class sessions here. If you’re working with SSIS, or considering it, you can’t go wrong.

SQL Server Security – How Do You Approach It?
When you’re working with SQL Server, one of the most important things you’ll want to be able to know is who has access to which things on your server. Add to this the ability to audit and track data changes, user activity and so-on and you’re well on your way to getting your arms around the security on your server. Idera’s SQL secure and SQL compliance manager tools will really help – take a look and see what you find out about your own servers. They even have a 2 for 1 special going on, so you really can’t lose. Check it out here.

Counters… What Do You Watch?
So many times the answer to questions about what we do start with "…it depends." I’ve been talking with different people about things to monitor with SQL Server and of course one of the tools you have available is Performance Monitor. I wanted to toss out a request – it’s pretty simple, really –

– What counters do you watch?
– What counters have proven most useful? Least useful?
– What experiences have you had with counters?

I’d like to compile a real-world-usage-based list of counters. Not what’s "supposed" to be watched, but what has proven itself to be helpful in real-world application. Sure, "it depends" on the systems you have, the storage subsystems and much more, but I’d really like to hear from you – see what you keep track of.

Could you drop me an email, let me know? I’d sure appreciate it.
