Cloud Computing – a Major Directional Goal
It’s clear from TechEd that Microsoft and many others are picking cloud computing and all that that means as a clear direction for IT. We’ve talked here in the newsletter and in the show and so-on quite a bit about the concerns early on with cloud-based services, but you can sure see the solutions falling into place, as well as the benefits.
Have you worked with cloud-based solutions yet? I’ll be the one of the first to admit that the security implications of having your information "out there" is top of mind. That said, the benefit of having the capacity to handle bursts of utilization without having to build out your own systems for those spikey times, is quite compelling. There are so many other reasons to look at cloud computing that are real benefits. Security in terms of integrated solutions and such, controls for administration and the like — all of these do appear to be falling into place. I think it’s something that needs to be on your "review" list as you spec out new projects.
What types of things do you see with the cloud, and what hesitations or benefits do you see?
