A Decade of Agile
Agile as a software development methodology has reached a 10 year anniversary. Scott Ambler provides an interesting review, “Agile at 10: What We Believe”, regarding the effort to update the Agile Manifesto based on what was learned over the past decade.
What I find interesting is the inability of the group to find enough cohesion resulting in an update. The group was able to identify issues exposed in the current Agile Methodology. However, there was not enough consensus to establish any modifications to the Manifesto addressing any of the issues
Some highlights from Scott’s article that caught my attention were:
- Although Agile projects have a better track record for success than other methodologies, the difference is not that radical
- Agile strategies do not apply to every situation.
- Agile proponents need to learn to work with other teams using a different methodology
- Like any methodology, it is difficult to establish what brings “Value” to the business
- Code is not the only way to deliver an Agile deliverable
I hope you take the time to read Scott’s article. He brings up some great issues for those of us wishing to improve our processes…and many of those issues are found outside of the Agile Camp.
As always, I love to hear your thoughts and opinions. What kind of changes can you see addressing some of the Issues Scott shares. Drop me a note on Facebook, Twitter, or e-mail me at btaylor@SSWUG.org.

I am so tired of hearing “It was requested by the client and we need to produce it” even if the requirements are not in the least bit scalable (returning 500,000 rows to a screen that shows 10 results per page).
Here are some phrases Christopher would like to hear (He is the first)
