CodePlex New Features Help SQL Server DBAs
Microsoft created the CodePlex project for Open Source Software site with the goal of providing a centralized gallery of samples using different portions of the Microsoft technologies in order to solve real world problems.
It started primarily to work with Dot Net based technologies. Database aspects were often implemented through SQL DMO or PowerShell. Both of these techniques are valuable to a DBA. Many of us have used them frequently.
While browsing the site recently I became aware of three things I want to mention today.
- They have a new section of SQL Scripts to solve problems. You can find it on the home page or go to Sharing 7 New SQL Server T-SQL Script Samples from All-In-One Script Framework (AIOSF)
- They have a new search tool you can now add into Visual Studio 2010 and 2012 allowing you to find projects in CodePlex to demonstrate or even solve your problem. With this tool you can locate, download, and open projects from CodePlex without leaving Visual Studio
- They have a number of already created examples for working with databases using PowerShell and SQL DMO you may find useful when managing your SQL Servers
CodePlex is not just for developers anymore.
Do you have other tools you use to optimize your work? Share them with us by writing to btaylor@sswug.org.
Cheers,
Ben
