How To Find Content in SSWUG

There is an incredible, and growing, amount of data available to you through the SSWUG site. Sometimes you may find it difficult to find content you know exists. I thought I would share a couple tips that helped me find some content for a reader today.

First enter your search terms in the “Search SSWUG ORG” text box on the top of the site. After pressing enter or clicking GO the site presents content meeting your search terms in the Search Results pane. If more than 100 items meet your criteria it will only return the top 100 results.

One thing you can do to narrow down your search is filter by the different kinds of content

  • List Server
  • Editorials – Contains content from various contributors presented in the daily newsletter
  • Articles – Detailed articles about some topic hosted on SSWUG or linked to other sources
  • Scripts – SQL scripts uploaded by readers for presentation in articles or sharing
  • Whitepapers – Detailed how-to, product comparisons, etc. Usually these are vendor supplied
  • Videos – SSWUGtv and other video content
  • DVDs – DVDs available through sswug
  • Sessions – Virtual Session content presented through sswug

Select or de-select content type to narrow down your search resulting in a smaller list in the content pane.

Search on phrases or a single word. You may find it helpful to include the target database engine in your search as well. Be aware that sswug.org is a membership site; not all content will be available to non-members when performing a search.

Reader Feedback

I was reading one of your articles/commentaries in an email a few weeks (perhaps months) ago and it was suggesting a slightly different approach to accomplish a task similar to a PIVOT. I searched quite a bit and can’t seem to find the article and I was hoping you could point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Editor:
I did a search on the SSWUG site and found the editorial located at http://bitonthewire.wpengine.com/editorials/default.aspx?id=2812 providing high level implementation ideas. You’ll need to flesh out how to write the query using the pivot table with this editorial.

I wrote a detailed article on the topic years ago. The source code may no longer be available. However, the article demonstrates in detail how to use a pivot table. http://bitonthewire.wpengine.com/articlesection/default.aspx?TargetID=23016
