Open Systems Software

My editorial today consists of some questions regarding open systems software.

  1. Do you use open system software? If so, what libraries do you find useful for Java, Java Script or Dot Net?
  2. Do you contribute to open source software initiatives? If so, what are the factors that motivate you?
    1. Are you trying to enhance code to make it work better for your purposes?
    2. Are you contributing to enhance the code base because you want the experience of participating in a larger world
    3. Are you using this as a learning opportunity?
    4. Is this something you are doing to enhance your career?
    5. Is there some other motivation for you?
  3. Would you suggest others get involved and contribute to an open systems effort? If so, what are your favorite open systems resources?
